Course Schedule

Please note that all of our courses are available online between 9am-12noon Chinese Time, in addition to the local Vancouver times listed below. Please let us know if you wish to take our courses online and we will happily make individual arrangements for you!

Pricing: Courses run for 11 weeks, unless indicated to the contrary. The cost is generally $30/hour/student, with a 4-student minimum.

Academic English Vocabulary Plus+ For Grades 10-12
Sundays 10-12

You need vocabulary to improve your English writing skills! In this course, we will learn university-level vocabulary, which will help you take both the SAT and IELTS, and also prepare you for university. Be prepared to practice and memorize words, and do a lot of quizzes! We will learn vocabulary about health, transportation, sciences, engineering: all the different subjects that a university applicant should know and be able to talk and write about.


Academic Reading For Grades 8-12
Sundays 1-3
Tuesdays 4-6

*This course is offered at three levels: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Before registering, we will give you an English assessment test, to see which level is best for you.

In all fields — including the sciences — you need to know how to read complex texts in English, fast. This course will prepare you for university-level reading. You will read increasingly complicated texts, and learn how to skim, how to search for information, how to summarize, and how to understand the meaning of the text. You will learn how to recognize an author’s argument and how to find the key words and phrases. This course will help you get a high grade in high school English.

Academic Writing
Sundays 3-5
Tuesdays 6-8

*This course is offered at three levels: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Before registering, we will give you an English assessment test, to see which level is best for you.

You will learn how to respond to a prompt; how to brainstorm for ideas; how to outline; and how to use paragraphs to convey your meaning. You will learn how to develop and write arguments, and how to give good (relevant) examples. You will also learn how to defend your argument and how to write with nuance. Finally, you will learn how to proofread and polish your essay. This course will help you develop confidence for writing in high school English.

IELTS Speaking
Thursdays 6-8

This course is designed for students who would like to take the IELTS (General or Academic). In small groups of 2-3 students, we will practice pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary and develop fluency. We will practice all three parts of the Speaking test, and you will receive feedback at every session.

IELTS Listening
Thursdays 4-6

In this course, you will take a mock IELTS Listening test and we will correct your answers. You will learn how to listen attentively, and watch for verbal cues. You will learn to wait for the correct information, and how to check your answers. Finally, you will learn how to distinguish between useful and useless information on the test.

SAT Preparation
Sundays 5-6:30 & Tuesdays 8-9:30

This course is designed to help you pass the Reading and Writing sections of the SAT. We will cover the different question types, and learn how to read fast, in order to do well on both of these sections of the test. You will learn how to recognize different types of passages, how to find the correct information, and how to choose the correct answers. Finally, we will also learn how to write essays for the SAT.

Socials For High School 8-12

This course will teach you the fundamental material for your social studies courses. We will cover the main events in Canadian and world history and also prepare you for your school tests. We will also give you additional material (and readings) to help improve your knowledge of the past.

French

*This course is offered at three levels: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. Before registering, we will give you a French assessment test, to see which level is best for you.

We offer individual tutoring in French, at three levels. We will teach you the basic grammar and also reading, writing and speaking skills you need to succeed. We will cover basic and advanced verb forms, prepositions and sentence structures, and also develop your pronunciation.
